About Me

Welcome to my professional journey. I am Ericka Eppler, a dedicated Ph.D. student in Learning Design & Technology at Oklahoma State University, expected to graduate in 2025. I also earned a Master of Science from Oklahoma State University in Educational Technology in 2018.

In my role as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, I have had the opportunity to apply instructional support and human performance technology principles within the Spears School of Business, tailoring education to a variety of learning needs. I engage with faculty members, helping them align their online courses with industry standards and frameworks, including Universal Design for Learning (UDL), ISTE Standards, and Mayer’s Multimedia Principles.

I am also part of an academic group that creates and studies makerspaces. I am the Research Documentation Leader for One Community One Challenge (OCOC), and my role pertains to accurate data collection processes.

I have varied teaching experiences. As a private educator and online tutor since 2016, I have specialized in creating tailored curriculum for students with special needs, harnessing a variety of instructional techniques and adaptive technologies to ensure their success. I also have experience working as an English Language Learners' Educator with an online PreK-12th grade school, where I taught all grades.

As a professional, I continually seek best practices in instructional support and education through my active participation in professional associations, and My service activities are as diverse as my professional interests. In the Association for Educational Communications & Technology (AECT), I have taken on roles that allow me to contribute to the field at large. I am co-chair of a systems thinking publication committee and serve in leadership roles within special interest groups (SIGS). Additionally, I serve as research mentor for undergraduate students, providing valuable feedback at research symposia, engage as a N.E.A.R. science ambassador, and serve on the Journal of Technology-Integrated Lessons and Teaching (JTILT) board. Each of these roles allows me to learn more about educational technology as I serve my professional community.

I am also committed to creating and disseminating quality research. In 2023, I contributed a chapter on systems thinking in online education and presented at the Association for Educational Communications & Technology (AECT) and International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) on various topics, including the innovative use of maker spaces for education, which earned my OCOC group a 2nd place award for poster presentation at AECT.

My roots originate from 15+ years of industry experience, where I worked in radio frequency engineering. Therefore, I am committed to creating science education experiences that stem from my unique perspective. I also still work as a telecommunications contractor so that I can continue to bridge the gap between academia and industry.
